Our very own Mark Stone, joined Zach Miller, Vice President of Government Affairs at TANY, and Voice Of GO(r)D for a discussion that was incredibly insightful and informative, focusing on specific issues in the trucking industry within New York State. It particularly highlighted the challenges faced by carriers in dealing with climate activists and the numerous mandates that affect all our equipment.

We also discussed unique challenges of operating in New York City, including managing traffic flow, at least attempting to do so, and hauling trash out of the city. Additionally, we explored the intricate dance of cooperation with everyone else on the roads of the Big Apple.
New York State is set to implement new mandates for commercial trucking in 2027, aligning with upcoming federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. These mandates will focus on reducing emissions from medium and heavy-duty trucks, improving air quality, and promoting the adoption of cleaner technologies such as electric and alternative-fuel vehicles.
Trucking companies operating in the state will be required to comply with stricter emissions regulations, which may include updated engine standards, limits on greenhouse gas output, and incentives for zero-emission vehicle adoption.
Businesses in the transportation and logistics sectors should begin preparing for these changes now, as the updates will likely involve fleet upgrades, infrastructure investments, and adjustments to operational practices.
The 2027 rollout is expected to have a significant impact on the commercial trucking industry across New York, aligning state-level efforts with national environmental goals.
